Business Wire, Feb 24, 2009
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Michael Baker Jr., Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE Alternext US: BKR), announced today that Dwight A. Beranek, P.E., CFM, senior vice president, has been named market services manager for Baker's federal Department of Defense (DoD) programs. Previously, Beranek served as Baker's program executive for the FEMA Flood Map Modernization contract. In this new role, he will apply his extensive experience and leadership skills to more fully develop Baker's service offerings in the federal DoD market space. He will continue to operate out of Baker's Alexandria, Va., office.
Beranek joined Baker in 2006 from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where he served for more than 35 years in a variety of management and leadership positions, including deputy director of military programs, based at Corps headquarters in Washington, D.C. In that position, he provided senior executive direction and leadership for the Corps' multibillion-dollar-per-year military programs. Previously, he was the chief of engineering and construction for the Corps, also at the headquarters location, where he served as the Corps' civilian chief engineer for civil works and military missions. Prior to that, he had served as director of engineering for the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division of the Corps, working extensively with military, state and local officials to deliver military construction and water resources solutions.
"Dwight has been instrumental in the success of our FEMA Map Mod contract and we have great confidence in his ability to transition to this new position and provide leadership to grow our DoD market service area," said Baker's Ed Wiley, P.E., executive vice president and director of federal programs. "The passion and commitment he brings to this position will serve both Baker and its DoD clients well."
A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Beranek holds a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from Northwestern University, as well as Master's Degrees in Business Administration and Public Administration from Boston University and American University, respectively. He is a registered professional engineer in Nebraska, and is a member of a number of professional societies, including the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the National Society of Professional Engineers, and the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. He is the recipient of the President's Medal by both the SAME and ASCE.
