Here are highlights from Friday's Analyst Blog:
Comerica Still a Sell Pre-Earnings
Comerica (NYSE: CMA) is a Detroit-based banking and financial services company. With nearly 10,350 employees and 400 banking offices, CMA is one of the top 20 banks in the country.
CMA is scheduled to release its 4Q08 financial results on January 22, 2008. Excluding the one-time items, 3Q08 operating earnings came in at $0.52 per diluted share, two pennies short of our estimate.
Energizer with Plenty of Juice
Energizer Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: ENR) has generated top-line growth both through organic growth in the razor blade and battery businesses and though the acquisition of Playtex and Hawaiian Tropic.
In addition, integration savings, originally estimated to be $57 million, was increased to $70 million. Management is incentivized with annual and two-year bonus plans and a stock incentive plan. Historically, management has been successful in qualifying for performance-based awards.
Glaxo a Big-Pharma Hold
GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK) is the world's second largest pharmaceutical company, with global operations based in the U.K. and the U.S.
Although Glaxo has made significant progress with its late-stage pipeline, we are worried about the recent negative news surrounding the company's second-largest-selling drug Avandia, as well as generic competition to several other products. Sales of Avandia have plummeted, but we think they're close to bottoming.
CACI Int'l Secures a Buy Rec
Based in Arlington, Virginia, CACI International (NYSE: CAI) delivers the IT applications and infrastructure used to improve communications and collaboration, secure the integrity of information systems and networks, enhance data collection and analysis, and increase efficiency and mission effectiveness. The company's solutions enhance defense and intelligence capabilities, assure homeland security, improve decision-making and help customers operate smarter, faster and more responsibly.
We remain positive about CAI's long-term prospects. We think the trend towards outsourcing by the federal government to modernize mission-critical information systems to be intact. Management expects to generate revenues of $5 billion by 2012, derived from both organic growth and acquisitions.
UPS Keeps Delivering
We are retaining our Buy on United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE: UPS), as well as our $60 target price. UPS will report 4th quarter results on February 3.
We are cutting our 2008 diluted EPS estimate to $3.55 from $3.57, toward the lower end of UPS guidance of $3.50-3.70, and to $3.35 from $3.75 for 2009, as we have reduced our revenue and share repurchase estimates due to the global economic slowdown.
