Business Wire, Jan 14, 2009
NEW YORK -- Mediabistro (a division of Jupitermedia Corporation, Nasdaq: JUPM) announced that Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist has joined the inaugural UGCX keynote speaker lineup. UGCX: User-Generated Content Conference & Expo will take place at the San Jose Convention Center February 9 - 10, 2009 in San Jose, CA. Other recently added featured speakers include Tim Kring, creator of TV series "Heroes," and Paul Buchheit, Co-founder of FriendFeed.
"We are thrilled to have Craig Newmark join Guy Kawasaki, Fred Durham of CafePress and Bruce Livingstone of iStockphoto on our roster of keynotes," said Jupitermedia CEO Alan Meckler. "The UGCX speaker lineup features visionaries and innovators that are creating business models, content, platforms, new media and brand presence."
"This is the first conference organized to unite content-trendsetters and business leaders in various fields to examine how their worlds collide and what the future holds." said Meckler. "User-generated, or social content, is affecting business for both profit and nonprofit organizations," concluded Meckler.
Craig Newmark is Founder and Customer Service Rep at Craigslist. Craigslist was started in 1995 as an email list for friends and co-workers about events going on in the San Francisco Bay Area. Today, Craigslist has grown into one of the busiest sites on the internet, helping people with basic day-to-day needs such as finding a job, an apartment, and a date, all within a culture of trust.
Keynote speakers will be joined by other UGC experts including Jim Caparro, Creative Partners Media, Jerome Conlon, Brand Frameworks, Jack Hollingsworth, JackHollingsworth.com, Brian Solis, Future-Works, and mediabistro.com founder Laurel Touby.
The UGCX conference program will deliver sessions on creating business models, content creation, platform creation, new media and brand presence. The program features four tracks:
* SOCIAL CONTENT: social content for big business, mobile applications, social promotion engines, mature social networks, audience building and marketing 2.0
* PHOTOGRAPHY: microstock platforms, UGC business models, licensing and rights management, citizen photo-journalism, sharing, selling and defending photos online.
* MUSIC: social platforms, artist recruitment and management, musician opportunities, branding, promotional uses, tools and software, business models, widgets, webisodes, and clips
* VIDEO & GAMING: monetizing video content, video & viral marketing, business models, video games, licensing and rights management
The tradeshow floor will be a marketplace for UGC organizations that provide tools, technology, services and infrastructure for both UGC buyers and producers. UGCX will provide a critical element that can only be found at a trade show -- it will also facilitate face-to-face business development for entrepreneurs, VCs, partnerships and recruitment.
