WAN Optimization technology from Expand renews ROI on existing infrastructure

ROSELAND, NJ -- Expand Networks, www.expand.com, a leading provider of application acceleration solutions over the Wide Area Network (WAN), today announced that Targus, a leading global supplier of mobile computing accessories, has implemented Expand's WAN Optimization technology to improve the performance of all applications running over the MPLS WAN. Expand Networks' technology has addressed Targus' WAN (MPLS) network challenges, maximizing user productivity and providing a superior end user experience by putting the users in virtual proximity of the application and datacenter services.

Targus has grown rapidly on a global scale but has experienced WAN-related communications challenges, particularly related to its MPLS network. As traffic increased over the WAN, bandwidth and latency problems as well as a lack of traffic prioritization, affected network and application performance.

"Expand not only addressed our bandwidth and latency difficulties, they have also made our network traffic much more efficient," said Jim Lasher, Operations Manager for Targus. "The ability of Expand to do traffic discovery was a major help for us in determining what type of traffic was flowing across our network. With this information we were able to configure the QoS parameters on our MPLS network to prioritize our most meaningful traffic. This is a major benefit unique to Expand that enabled us to renew the RoI on our existing MPLS network."

The implementation of Expand's integrated technology doubled network capacity enabling Targus to share more bandwidth with its smaller remote offices that helped stretch its IT budget. Expand has also been able to address the challenge of accelerating an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system running over Citrix and web applications from Targus' split datacenter resulting in a superior end user experience.

"Expand can accelerate all applications and traffic types, in both physical and virtual environments thus addressing any customer's application performance issues," said Andrew W. Mullen, Vice President, Sales, Americas, Expand Networks. "The fact that we can also do this in a timely and cost-efficient manner and provide real, verifiable RoI gives us a great advantage over other more expensive, much less comprehensive products."
