James Glaze, a technology policy expert for the chip industry and VP of technology programs for the Semiconductor Industry Association, announced his resignation so that he could take a new leadership post with the Department of Energy (DOE). On November 1, Dr. Glaze will become executive director of the Virtual National Laboratory, which is comprised of three of DOE's national laboratories: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratory and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
The Virtual National Laboratory was established as an industry-government partnership in 1996 to provide a coordinated, multi-laboratory approach to develop extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUVL). At present, the three participating industry members in the EUVL project are Intel, Motorola and Advanced Micro Devices.
