National Semi acquires two European companies - The Circuit - Brief Article

Electronic News, May 6, 2002

NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR Corp. last week acquired two companies in the field of analog and power management technologies.

National acquired Fincitec Oy of Kemi, Finland, and ARSmikro OU of Tallinn, Estonia, in deals worth a total of $15 million. The two companies develop low-volt-age, low-power ASICs for battery-powered devices.

Santa Clara, Calif.-based National said the acquisitions strengthen its development capabilities for power management circuits for the portable market and will allow it to expand its suite of integrated and discrete silicon for handheld devices.

Fincitec is a fabless ASIC vendor with more than 200 completed designs, specializing in ultra-low-voltage/low-power mixed signal, logic and SOC ASICs for handheld battery-powered applications. The company has in-house design and test capabilities, developing and then producing devices on CMOS, BiCMOS and bipolar technologies. ARSmikro provided analog design services for Fincitec. The two companies bring 55 employees to National.
