VSI Alliance Debuts Program To Accelerate Standards Adoption

Electronic News, Feb 1, 1999

Santa Clara, Calif. -- This week's DesignCon99 tradeshow is the launching ground for the Virtual Socket Interface Alliance (VSIA)'s Registered VSIA Adopter (RVA) program. The program was established to encourage industry usage of VSIA specifications and guidelines in accelerating SOC design. The program will support RVA members through joint marketing activities including a RVA logo for their use. The VSI Alliance has released to its members five technical documents developed by its working groups that specify formats and guidelines to support and speed SoC design and integration, and will be available to the public in the future.

VSI Alliance member companies that have joined the program include ARM, Cadence Design Systems, BOPS, Escalade, Fujitsu Ltd., Mentor Graphics, Palmchip and Philips. Several RVA companies will share their experiences in using VSI specifications during a free lunch hour Technology Symposium on February 2nd at DesignCon99 in the Santa Clara Convention Center.

Membership to the RVA program is open to all VSIA members at an annual licensing fee of $5,000. All VSIA member companies that are using or have demonstrated their intention to begin using VSI specifications, guidelines and recommendations are eligible to join the program. Examples of VSI specification usage includes, but are not limited to activities such as sponsorship of pilots, use in design flows, usage of guidelines and formats in virtual component (VC) selection, authoring, transfer, or integration. RVA member companies are expected to benefit through joint promotion and marketing activities, including RVA logo usage and knowledge-sharing activities with VSI Alliance.
