Zoran Invades Boston
Electronic News, Feb 8, 1999
Digital video and audio IC maker Zoran Corp. said its ZR38601 digital audio processor IC will be used with Boston Acoustics' Dolby Digital surround sound audio system, dubbed the DigitalTheater 6000. Zoran claims the market for digitally driven speakers is rapidly expanding as the demand is growing for high quality sound at a price most consumers will be willing or able to pay.
The ZR38601 features 50 MIPS of processing power and a built-in Sony/Philips digital interface format receiver. The DigitalTheater 6000 supports a wide variety of audio data streams including audio from DVD players, LaserDisc players, digital television (DTV) receivers, CD players, and set-top boxes. The chip is the fourth generation digital audio processor from Zoran and was developed in conjunction with Dolby Labs.
