CONTRACT MANUFACTURERS ARE CONTINUING TO RACK UP NEW capabilities that reach deeper into the product life cycle. Electronic manufacturing services leader Solectron expanded its repair and other aftersale capabilities last week by acquiring Magnetic Data Technologies (MDT), a global provider of after sales services for the communications, computer and electronic storage markets.
The acquisition is part of Solectron's strategy to expand its aftersales service presence in commodity segments, such as printed circuit board assemblies, liquid crystal displays and hard-disk drives. As a result of the transaction, Solectron becomes a leading independent provider of magnetic and optical drive screening and repair services.
