National's High Res GTA

Electronic News, July 5, 1999 by Jerry Ascierto

NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR Corp., Santa Clara, Calif., will today unveil its CLC5506, a high-resolution gain trim amplifier (GTA) targeted at cellular base stations, wireless local loops, radar and cable modems. The GTA integrates intermediate frequency functions into a digitally programmable amplifier, and achieves a fine 0.25 decibel(dB) step resolution, the company said.

The device integrates a low-noise amplifier, a 6-bit programmable attenuator and a MicroWire interface. The company believes that such integration can shave as much as $15 off of discrete solution costs. The CLC5506 is currently available in a 14 Pin Plastic Small Outline IC, and is priced at $4.95 each in quantities of 1,000. Populated evaluation boards are priced at $60 each.
