Worldwide silicon shipments rise in Q2 - The Fab Line - Brief Article - Statistical Data Included

Electronic News, August 12, 2002

WORLD WIDE SILICON WAFER AREA SHIPments improved by 26 percent during Q2 compared to Q1, according to Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI). Total silicon wafer area shipments were 1.3 billion square inches during the most recent quarter, up from the 1 billion square inches shipped during the previous quarter.

The latest total area shipments represent a 29 percent improvement year-over-year but are still 13 percent below the peak of 1.5 billion square inches shipped in Q3 of 2000. Silicon wafer manufacturers remain concerned that shipments in the current quarter do not reflect indications of a weaker than originally anticipated second half for chip manufacturers, SEMI said.
