Genus Posts Book-to-Bill of 1:1, Ships First 300mm CVD Tool

SUNNYVALE, CALIF.-BASED GENUS INC. RECENTLY POSTED A bookings-to-billings ratio of 1.1 for the second quarter of 2001 despite having to report a loss in earnings on the quarter. Net sales for the quarter ended June 30 were $13.7 million, representing a 107 percent increase over the $6.6 million in net sales for the same period last year.
Net loss for the second quarter was $853,000 or 4 cents per share, compared to a net loss of $2.1 million, or 11 cents per share in the second quarter of 2000. The company posted $15 million in books for the quarter and added two new customers, putting its customer count at seven. Bill Elder, chairman and chief executive officer, said that Genus should gain an additional customer during the current quarter. He suggested the company could have 10 customers by the end of the year. Genus also recently shipped its first 300mm chemical vapor deposition system to an unnamed chipmaker The Lynx3 system is the first of two systems that were ordered by the customer and will be placed into a production environment, Genus said. The second system is scheduled for shipment later this quarter.
