NEC's ASIC Core Chosen for Dotcast's Digital Network

Electronic News, August 27, 2001

NEC ELECTRONICS INC. LAST WEEK SAID ITS ASIC 32-BIT CONtroller core would be used by privately held Dotcast Inc. in its Dotcast Digital Network, a broadband network the companies said is capable of distributing very large amounts of digital content. NEC Electronics, the Santa Clara, Calif.-based subsidiary of Japan's NEC Corp., said Dotcast will use the NU85E ASIC core to perform the processing functions in its software-programmable radio ASIC, an important component in its digital network.

The NU85E is compatible with NEC's V850 family of microcontrollers. NEC Electronics will work with Mountain View, Calif.-based Dotcast to design the ASIC and will also manufacture the product. Dotcast's software radio is designed for consumer electronics OEMs that are designing devices capable of receiving digital content distributed over the Doteast network.
