ARM Launches Automotive Support

Electronic News, Sept 17, 2001

ARM HOLDINGS PLC. OF CAMBRIDGE, ENGLAND, LAST WEEK rolled out an automotive interface, dubbed the ARM IMAD1 module, for use in its Integrator family of hardware and software integration platforms. The modules work in conjunction with the Integrator platform's logic modules and the ARM PrimeCell peripherals in order to help developers add intellectual property to differentiated products.

The interface contains two Bosch CAN bus connections as well as other automotive interfaces including A/D inputs and outputs to drive accuators. These allow the module to bridge the gap between the development platform and real-world automotive applications, ARM said. "We developed the ARMIMAD1 for automotive OEMs who are designing increasingly complex automotive systems," said Gordon Stubberfield, hardware development platforms product manager at ARM. "By providing this interface to the industry-proven Integrator development platforms, we are offering OEMs a flexible and costefficient way to attach SOC systems they are developing to the automotive environment earlier in the development cycle, resulting in faster system development cycles and reduced development costs."

The ARM IM-AD1 is priced at $1,500 per module and is planned to be available sometime in the fourth quarter.
