Avnet rolls out BOM service - Off the Shelf - bill of materials tool BOM Manager - Brief Article

AVNET ELECTRONICS MARKETING, A DIVISION OF PHOENIX-based Avnet Inc., has introduced a new bill of materials (BOM) tool through its services unit, Promiere. BOM Manager will be offered through an exclusive reseller agreement with PCNalert, a product-change and end-of-life (EOL) provider based in Pasadena, Calif.
According to Avnet, the BOM Manager is a Web-based system that organizes EOL and part change notifications (PCN) and sends them to the desktops of customers via e-mail. "Information is useless if it isn't acted upon," said Greg Frazier, executive VP of Avnet Supply Chain Services. "Design engineers and purchasing managers need a flexible and Web-based Frazier tool that is simple and easy to use." He noted that when BOM Manager is used in conjunction with other Promiere tools, it will give users information only about parts that matter to them, thus eliminating the problem of too much information to process and act upon.
