WILLIAM HEWLETT, ONE OF the great Silicon Valley pioneers, died Friday of natural causes. He was 87. Hewlett, who along with Stanford friend David Packard started computer maker Hewlett-Packard Co. in 1938, steered the company, the first to make audio oscillators, into one of the world's largest PC makers.
