Avnet launches SCM tool - Off the Shelf - Component Selector supply chain intelligence tool - Brief Article - Product Announcement

Electronic News, Sept 30, 2002 by Rob Spiegel

PROMIERE, A UNIT OF PHOENIX-BASED AVNET INC., HAS introduced Component Selector, a supply chain intelligence tool tied to the company's product database of 9 million electronic components. The tool was designed to help identify and minimize component obsolescence problems while improving design engineering and sourcing processes. Component Selector was developed through Avnet's alliance with i2 Technologies Inc. of Dallas. i2 has provided its electronics database as well as the underlying technology to drive the sourcing and design tool.

"Designers don't have time to search through disparate catalogs and individual supplier Web sites for parts information," said Greg Frazier, executive VP of Avnet Supply Chain Services. "Component Selector solves this problem by providing unified browser access to a fully normalized database of current and complete component information." Parametric data in Component Selector includes technical attributes for each part as well as supply chain information such as price, availability and life-cycle status.
