DSP Software Crunch

Electronic News, Nov 1, 1999 by Charles Small

If Internet telephones take off and become a high-volume product, competition will quickly become fierce and the usual cost pressures will apply. Dataquest forecasts the market will grow to 9.2 million enterprise IP Phones in 2004, up from 21,000 in 1998. The major selling point of Internet telephones is that they use the same Ethernet and Internet networks as all other forms of data communications. Thus Internet telephones don't require an entirely separate cable plant and equipment as conventional telephones do.
