Flextronics Cuts

Electronic News, Oct 29, 2001

SINGAPORE-BASED CONTRACT MANUFACTURER FLEXTRONICS International Ltd. reported a $330 million quarterly loss, including restructuring charges on fiscal second-quarter sales of $3.24 billion. Restructuring includes cutting 10,000 jobs (15 percent of its global workforce) and 4 million square feet of production space (20 percent of its facilities).

Operating profit before the charges was $103 million, or 15 cents a share. The reductions, which have mostly been completed, are primarily in high-cost locations, the company (nasdaq: FLEX) said, while it continues to expand elsewhere.
