Logo My USB

Electronic News, Nov 20, 2000 by Peter Brown

TRYING TO CREATE MORE OF A brand name approach to product applications on the market, Intel Corp., in conjunction with the USB Implementers Forum Inc., (USB IF) has created two trademark logos. Compliance testing is required for logo use; this will allow customers shopping for printers, scanners, keyboards and other computer peripherals to look for a USB logo as well as easily identify products that will work with their USB-enabled machines, Intel said.

"Channel buyers are urged to insist upon the new logos when they buy products from vendors," said Jason Ziller, Intel technology initiatives manager and chairman of the USB IF. "This insistence for quality products that operate easily continues with savvy consumers, who will recognize the importance of product certification. For manufacturers the logo program provides added incentives for them to pass compliance testing."

Intel and the USB IF are trying to time the introduction of the logos to coincide with the rollout of USB 2.0-enabled products slated to be delivered soon.
