ARM Inks Deal with Imagination Tech

Electronic News, Nov 20, 2000

GRAPHICS FIRM IMAGINAtion Technologies is believed to be in cross-licensing discussions with microprocessor developer ARM Ltd., Electronics Weekly, an Electronic News affiliate, reports.

Hossein Yassaie, chief executive of Imagination Technologies, is reported to have said the firm was in the early stage of discussions with a number of companies including ARM.

A spokesman confirmed that Imagination is in discussions with several firms, but added that it was premature to talk about any specific licensing deals.

ARM's low-power RISC processors are used in a range of applications, from automotive electronics to mobile communications. Imagination co-designed the PowerVR series of graphics chips.

It is not yet clear what products would emerge from such an alliance but it could lead to the inclusion of ARM's processors in some of Imagination's home entertainment consumer products or in a product boosting graphics over mobile phones.
