NVIDIA CORP. LAST WEEK INTRODUCED ITS MOBILE GRAPHICS processing unit (GPU), promising the fastest performance on a mobile platform. The chip, the NV17M, was demonstrated at Comdex in Las Vegas last week.
The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company said the GPU is the first to feature custom anti-aliasing hardware designed specifically for notebooks. The company said this technology allows very high frame rates and crisp, clean visuals despite the limitations of XGA resolution.
"Our new-generation mobile GPU simultaneously addresses the conflicting demands of the mobile environment while delivering desktop-caliber performance," said JenHsun Huang, Nvidia's president and CEO, in a statement. "Nvidia dramatically altered the mobile computing environment with our original GeForce2 Go mobile GPU, and our newest GPU ensures notebook users of the fastest, most comprehensive and feature-rich computing experience ever realized on a mobile platform."
The NV17M GPU is currently in volume production and is scheduled to be available in notebooks in early 2002.
