AMD introduces mobile chips at 1.2GHz, 1.1GHz - The Circuit - Brief Article - Product Announcement

Electronic News, Feb 4, 2002

ADVANCED MICRO DEVICES Inc. (AMD) last week rolled out two new versions of its Duron mobile PC processor running at 1.2GHz and 1.1GHz.

AMD also announced today that Epson Direct and Hitachi have committed to using AMD processors in notebooks that will be marketed in Japan.

On Monday, AMD introduced what it said is its highest-performing mobile chip to date--the Athlon 4 processor 1500 , available now in Compaq Computer Corp.'s Presario 700 notebooks.

"Our customers' success relies on AMD's powerful products and dependable resources," said Ed Ellett, VP of marketing for AMD's computation products group, in a statement. "Not only have we consistently gained retail notebook market acceptance in the United States, but we are gaining momentum internationally as well."

The chips are fabricated with the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based chipmaker's PowerNow! technology. Systems based on the chips are expected to be available soon, AMD said.

The 1.2GHz and 1.1GHz AMD mobile Duron processors are priced at $160 and $130, respectively, in quantities of 1,000.
