Cypress Semi Acquires HiBand in $30M Deal

CYPRESS SEMICONDUCTOR Inc. is acquiring HiBand Semiconductors Inc., a provider of mixed signal ICs for synchronous optical network, Ethernet, Fibre Channel and InfiniBand, in a stock transaction valued at $30 million. The acquisition is expected to extend the San Jose-based company's (nyse: CY) expertise in physical-layer (PHY) communications devices and optical technology.

The acquisition will also give Cypress an R&D facility in Scotts Valley, Calif. "We will have the opportunity to tap the engineering talent in that portion of Silicon Valley," said T.J. Rodgers, Cypress president and chief executive officer.
