They'll Not Unwind The Ties That Bind

Electronic News, July 20, 1998 by Carolyn Sobel

The question now arises whether, given several companies Already scrambling for these that is, embedded CPU and hard disk drive, oh yes, that too is it wise for them to target precisely this specific market? Competitors often now choose embedded x86 CPUs and HDD as profits scram from desktop CPUs, DRAM. And even as I write, we hear that competition is severe in pricing of graphics IC, not to mention DSP.

ST's New Ventures' Jean-Claude Monney seems to think the outlook's sunny HDD IC business thrives because of the value of disk drives in the lives of the consumers. (This value's fact, not simply rumors.) It isn't just inconsequential that there is much volume potential. Is that the scent of profits brewing? We expect they know what they are doing.
