Lucent - Lucent Technologies' Microelectronics Group introduces integrated circuits - Company Business and Marketing
Electronic News, August 3, 1998 by Gale Morrison, Peter Brown, Dylan McGrath
Lucent Technologies' Microelectronics Group introduced a group of high-speed interface integrated circuits (ICs) said by the company to enable transmission of data from one circuit board, mainframe or local communication system to another more than 20 times as fast as the common RS422 industry standard.
The new group of ICs, consisting of line drivers, receivers and transceivers, transmit data over balanced transmission lines that connect circuit boards. Utilizing bipolar enhanced self-aligned technology (BEST), Lucent's data transmission devices transmit at claimed speeds of up to 400 megabits per second (Mb/s). The chips are available now, priced at $2.95 each in quantities of 1,000.
