In other Texas Instruments news, the company will also today introduce a low voltage differential signaling (LVDS) dual driver/receiver bringing TI's product portfolio for LVDS devices up to 17 devices. This LVDS device utilizes a new data interface standard based on TIA/EIA-644 and the IEEE 1596.3 standards.
The LVDS device reaches a signal rate as high as 655 megabits-per-second and is claimed to consume one-eighth the power of traditional RS-422 drivers. The dual driver/receiver features a 2.5-nanosecond propagation delay and operates at 3.3 volts with 5V tolerant I/Os. The LVDS device is slated for availability in 4Q98 with pricing expected to be available at that time.
