The road to ruin?

Current Events,  Nov 11, 2005

Has the Hummer become a bummer? This cartoonist seems to think so. While the U.S. automobile industry continued to crank out gas-guzzling sport utility vehicles (SUVs), Japanese manufacturers put the pedal to the metal with smaller, more fuel-efficient cars. In this cartoon, a "Bummer" SUV with vanity plate GM Innovation (GM stands for General Motors) and a mini Japanese car are on their way to market dominance. Which car will win? What is the cartoonist saying about U.S. innovation? Do you agree? Why or why not?
