This ancient structure extends more than 1,500 miles from the Yellow Sea to deep in Gansu province. It is made of dirt, stone, and brick and varies in height from 15 feet to 30 feet. When Chinese emperor Shih Huang Ti united China in 214 B.C., he had the existing parts of the structure connected to make one long structure, to protect China from wandering tribes coming in from the north.
