Back to School - Al Gore to teach journalism at Columbia University

Current Events, Feb 23, 2001

After Al Gore conceded the presidential election to George W. Bush, many people wondered what the former vice president would do to occupy his time. Gore recently announced that he would accept a position as a visiting professor of journalism at Columbia University in New York City. Gore's background should prepare him well for the role; he worked as a reporter for The Tennessean before running for public office.

In journalism school, many students are taught to ask the "five W's" of journalism when reporting a story. The five W's are five questions that every story should answer: who, what, why, where, and when. According to the cartoon, Gore seems to hold a grudge about the outcome of the presidential election. Do you agree with that view? Why or why not?
