Kangaroo care - albino kangaroo at San Francisco Zoo - Green Zine

Ranger Rick, Feb, 1997

Check out Mulali (right), a young kangaroo in the San Francisco Zoo. Mulali is an albino (al-BYE-no), which means she was born with no color in her skin or fur.

For an albino, the sun can be a big problem--the animal's skin can't protect it from the sun's harmful rays. So every day, zookeepers put sunblock on Mulali's ears and other skin not covered by fur. (Luckily, a company named Banana Boat donated 400 tubes.)

Good luck, little Mulali! (And keep an eye out for more hopping-good 'roo info in next month's issue.)
