Land O'Lakes, Inc. has completed the purchase of the Kraft Foods, Inc. cheese plant in Melrose, Minn. The plant will be owned and operated by Melrose Dairy Proteins LLC, a joint venture of Land O'Lakes and Dairy Farmers of America, Inc. (DFA). Officials said the two cooperatives will each hold 50 percent ownership in Melrose Dairy Proteins LLC.
The plant produces bulk cheese, which is shipped to other plants for further processing and packaging. As part of the agreement, Kraft will purchase a portion of the plant's output.
