Beef Initiative Group Canada

Food & Drink Weekly, July 12, 2004

> Beef Initiative Group Canada is pushing a plan to develop a cattle industry independent from the U.S. Large meatpacking plants in western Canada are controlled by U.S. interests and producers have a hard time getting animals processed for lack of access to slaughterhouses, said Cam Ostercamp, a spokesman for the Beef Initiative, which is seeking construction of a large meatpacking plant to be funded partly by cattle producers and owned by Canadian interests.
