Canadian grocery retailer and food distributor Sobeys has announced the appointment of Peter Godsoe as chairman of the company. Godsoe joined the Board of Sobeys earlier this year and succeeds Graham Day, who announced his retirement as chairman at the company's annual general meeting, held this week.

Graham has served as chairman of the board since 2001 and has now been elected a director of the company. Godsoe was chairman and chief executive officer of The Bank of Nova Scotia from 1993 until his retirement last December.
