President George W. Bush has nominated Susan Schwab to be a deputy USTR. Schwab began her career as an agricultural trade negotiator at USTR in 1977, and during the past 25 years, she has worked at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo; for former Sen. John Danforth (R-Mo.); as assistant secretary of Commerce and director general of the U.S.

and Foreign Commercial Service in the administration of George H.W. Bush; and as director of corporate business development for Motorola. Between 1995 and 2004, when she assumed the presidency of the USM Foundation, she served as dean of the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland, College Park.
