Food & Drink Weekly, Oct 22, 2007

Spirits and wines group Brown-Forman has appointed Matthew Hamel as its general counsel, with effect from October 30. In his role, Hamel will lead Brown-Forman's legal team, overseeing the traditional legal activities related to trademarks, regulatory compliance, trade practices, litigation, corporate restructurings, corporate governance, SEC and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, acquisitions and other matters, the company said.

Hamel, who was previously with Dow Jones & Company, succeeds Michael Crutcher, who retired from the company at the end of August.
