OTA says ABC may broadcast questionable accusations

Food & Drink Weekly, Feb 7, 2000

The Organic Trade Association (OTA) said a segment on 20/20 scheduled for late Friday, Feb. 4, may contain an accusation that organic produce is more likely to cause foodborne illness. OTA said that accusation is false, and has prepared several fact sheets to refute the claim. The organic group points out that organic and conventional farmers must meet the same governmental rules for food safety.

Additionally, a statement from OTA agreed with government recommendations that all fresh produce should be washed before being eaten.
