Physician Compensation Benchmarking Sources:
Comparison of National Medians

The following are median national total cash compensation figures
(bonuses included, benefits excluded) for major specialties from
benchmark sources that offer relatively current data (covering 2001
or later) for all or most of the specialties. Pay figures are in
dollars, rounded off to the nearest thousand.

Productivity Survey Report. Pay rates as of April 2002.

Warren Surveys, Physician Compensation and Benefits Survey, 2002.
Data are means, not medians. Pay rates as of September 2002. Emergency
medicine includes urgent care.

Recruiters: Merritt, Hawkins & Associates. Data are means, not medians.
They reflect employers' offers, not actual pay deals, from MHA's own
recruiting assignments from April 2001 through March 2002.

Physicians Search. Data are mean first-year base salaries (bonuses and
benefits excluded) negotiated by physicians with three or more years of
experience, who are placed by members of National Association of
Physician Recruiters. Data are updated on running basis--one or two
specialties at a time over 12-to-18-month cycles.
