Drastic times and measures - The Fans Speak Out - Letter to the Editor

Auto Racing Digest,  Dec, 2003  by Andrew Holtbein

NASCAR is really embarrassing itself these days. The Kevin Harvick-Ricky Rudd incident at Richmond should be the last straw. Pit road looks like a WWE match, but the series refuses to take any drastic steps. The only way to stop this downward spiral is for NASCAR to suspend drivers. I realize that this will be abhorrent to sponsors, who will want the best drivers possible in their cars but it's necessary. If a driver misses a race due to suspension, he will basically be out of the championship hunt. Therefore, a one-race suspension for the next heavy offender would show drivers that they can't continue to behave the way some of them are acting. This sort of message would quickly put an end to childish shenanigans on the track, in the garage, and along pit road.
