Auto Racing Digest, June-July, 2003 by Jamie Harrison
A friend of mine recently attended a NASCAR Super Late Model event in Las Vegas that was won by a driver named Mike Cofer. He claims that this is the same man who used to be a placekicker for the NFL's San Francisco 49ers. I don't think that could possibly be the truth. Which one of us is wrong? Is Mike Cofer the driver a former pro football player?

Sorry, Jamie, your friend is correct. Former San Francisco 49ers placekicker Mike Cofer is indeed a professional driver. The former Super Bowl champion earned a victory in the NASCAR Super Late Model's KB Home Showdown 100 at the Bullring in Las Vegas in February--almost a year to the date of his first Late Model win at that track.
