The safety issues is a mysterious creature. Several years ago, when the open-wheel community suffered the untimely deaths of Greg Moore and Roberto Gonzales (along with several fans), many people associated with NASCAR were "bragging" that these kinds of tragedies couldn't possibly ever occur in stock car racing.
After all, how could anyone get hurt while driving a tank-like vehicle? And now, after further testing and research, we are finally realizing that this stock car rigidity is a dangerous characteristic that must be promptly remedied ["Pace Lap," September 2002]. NASCAR, for the future safety of drivers and fans alike, please get to work on this issue.
