Topic: RSS FeedMarathon games for starting hurlers are ancient history - Baseball
Baseball Digest, Nov, 2000 by Jerome Holtzman
"I remember saying, `Sure, but I can go one more,' figuring something just had to happen one way or the other, but that was the way it went through the 26th. True, maybe a couple more innings could have been played. But as you can see what a crime it would have been to have a loss marked up against either pitcher.
"Let me state right here the way they rate pitchers today is little short of criminal. Here was a game that neither pitcher got much credit for as far as averages are concerned. I contend that any pitcher, win or lose, who pitches nine innings of shutout ball should be given credit for a winning performance."
Cadore died in 1958, Joe Oeschger in 1986. Both were born in Chicago, 16 months apart.
