Innocence Ended - NCAA considers banning the recruiting of high school players during the summer

Basketball Digest, March, 2001 by Peter Abraham

There could be opposition within the ranks of the NCAA to the ideas put forward by the Basketball Issues Committee. And already one group of camp owners has retained a lawyer to try and keep the NCAA from trimming any days off the summer calendar. But Shaw is confident the proposals his committee worked on will be adopted. While not a panacea, it's a start.

"There is nothing inherently wrong with summer camps and summer tournaments," Shaw says. "One thing has become crystal-clear to us: There is no magic bullet. There is not a single alternative that cuts to the heart of the issue. The sport is simply too popular to regain is innocence."
