The little lefty - The Fans Speak Out - Letter to the Editor

Basketball Digest, March, 2003 by K. Johnson

One look at the jerseys hanging from the Staples Center's rafters--and a look at the numbers--will tell you that it is Gail Goodrich who belongs on the Los Angeles Lakers' Second Team over Norm Nixon. Goodrich led the Lakers in scoring four times; Nixon never did. Goodrich, unlike Nixon, was an All-NBA First Team player and is in the NBA Hall of Fame.

Nixon, thanks to Magic, does have two NBA titles. Goodrich merely has one. And the leading scorer on that title team, perhaps the greatest NBA team of all time, the 1971-72 Lakers, wasn't Jerry West or Wilt Chamberlain--it was the little lefty, Gail Goodrich.
