Allen is outstanding in Springfield

Bowling Digest, Spring, 2004

Patrick Allen converted a difficult 2-4-7-10 split en route to beating Danny Wiseman, 200-178, in the final game of the PBA Greater Philadelphia Open at Sproul Lanes.

Wiseman, who won $20,000, had struck in the 5th frame before Allen converted his split to take a one-pin lead.

"You leave that spare a lot out here," said Allen, who won $40,000 and now has two PBA tour titles. "Guys are pretty good at converting that one out here. I have to hit the 2-pin on the left, and then I have a good chance at it."

After Wiseman failed to convert a 2-10 split in the in the 7th frame, Allen took advantage with a strike followed by a spare in the 8th.

The win secured Allen a spot in this season's PBA Dexter Tournament of Champions. Allen started the day as the 28th and final bowler on the ToC list, but his victory vaulted him to the top of it.

The first semifinal featured Allen beating Rick Steelsmith, 233-185, as Allen struck in frames 2-6. Steelsmith fell behind early and was forced to convert seven-of-eight single-pin conversions in the game.

In the second semifinaL, Wiseman struck in frames 2-9 and defeated top qualifier Eric Forkel, 254-195.

In the wild card, Forkel defeated Parker Bohn Ill, 226-166. Forkel struck in four of his first five frames while Bohn began with two open frames and did not strike until the 6th frame.

Bohn walked away with $9,000 for his fifth-place finish while Forkel and Steelsmith tied for third and won $10,000 apiece.
