Lightning bolt strikes - The Fans Speak Out - Letter to the Editor

Bowling Digest, June, 2003 by Dave Featherstone

I read Dick Evans' article, "Bowling's Popularity? It's in the Stars" ["News, Notes & Quotes," April 2003], and have another name to add to the list of former top athletes who are also bowlers: Dennis "Conan" McKnight. Nearly 20 years ago, Carriage Lanes in Poway, Calif., hosted a "Football Fanatics" league on Monday nights.

It included several teams consisting of offensive linemen from the NFL's San Diego Chargers, including McKnight. As an ABC director for the Palomar Bowling Association, I had the opportunity to check the lanes after McKnight, the Chargers' special-teams center, bowled a perfect game. The lanes passed inspection, and Dennis received his 300 ring. (By the way, my team--without any Chargers players--won the league.)
