Taking a whirlwind tour: broadcasting the PWBA, overseeing amateur competition, or rolling a few frames herself—bowling's foremost female voice has seen it all

Bowling Digest, Summer, 2004 by Dick Denny

"I do feel that single membership is the way to go," Schmidt says, "especially in today's environment. The world has changed and the pace is faster." If a merger is approved, it is believed the WIBC and ABC tournaments would continue as affiliates of the USBC, Schmidt has to pinch herself when she thinks about her life in bowling and what it has meant to her and husband Greg.

"Greg has meant everything to me," she says. "I bowl at Chelle Crest on Monday nights and every other week in a mixed league on Saturday night with my husband. I wouldn't have had a career without him. He backs me 100% in everything I do. I wish I was as supportive of him as he is of me.

"I absolutely never thought I'd be doing what I've done: compete on the PWBA tour and work for the PWBA, broadcast for ESPN, and now be with WIBC as director of tournaments and marketing. I'm pretty excited about what the future holds for me and women's bowling."
