Bohn leads computer rankings heading into fall tour

DESPITE A STRONG challenge from Norm Duke, Parker Bohn III continues to be the top-ranked player on the PBA tour, according to the PBA computer rankings. Following Bowling's U.S. Open, Bohn--the reigning PBA player of the year--has 1,627 points to Duke's 1,608. Duke, who was ranked No. 5 at the start of the year, has won three times in 2000 and closed out the tour's summer swing by finishing second to Robert Smith in the U.S. Open. Jason Couch is third, with 1,496; Ryan Shafer is fourth (1,434); and former No. 1 Walter Ray Williams Jr. is fifth (1,389). Rounding out the top 10 are Chris Barnes, Ricky Ward, Amleto Monacelli, Pete Weber, and Tim Criss. Smith's win at Bowling's U.S. Open moved him from 32nd to 16th in the rankings.

Holman gets into the swing on the celebrity golf tour

PBA HALL-OF-FAMER AND ESPN color analyst Marshall Holman has been spending his free time this summer on the golf course, playing with some pretty "heavy hitters." Holman has played in three Celebrity Players Tour (CPT) golf events; his best finish was 11th place, in the Sun Microsystems John Elway Celebrity Classic in Denver. Among the celebrities who play CPT events are names like former NFL great Dan Marino, Baseball Hall-of-Famers Mike Schmidt and Johnny Bench, NHL legend Mario Lemieux, NBA Hall-of-Famer Jerry Lucas, former tennis champ Ivan Lendl, and the aforementioned Elway. Holman was expected to participate in a number of other CPT events slated for this summer. "The events are a lot of fun," Holman says, "and, of course, it allows me to talk about the PBA with other athletes, celebrities, and fans."
