Ball of confusion - The Fans Speak Out

Bowling Digest, Oct, 2002 by Glen Honke

When I received my latest issue of BOWLING DIGEST, I thought: "At last! I'm going to learn how to carry the 10-pin." I've read the article ["The Wrath of the Ringing 10," August 2002] twice, but learned nothing. Flat oil, slight blend, heavy blend, blocked condition, the ball breaks too soon or too late or too little or too much, move left, move right--it's too much for me to comprehend. Perhaps this is good advice for the pros, but a twice-a-week league bowler wouldn't get all of these things figured out until about the 9th frame of his third game!

Also, the illustration on page 24 showing how a weak 10 or a ringing 10 is left has me confused. I think my age has finally caught up to me and I don't understand pictures anymore. I've never seen pins act the way your diagram shows.
