PETE WEBER WON HIS FIRST ESPY Award July 10 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, beating four others in the Best Bowler category. Weber became the sixth bowler to take home the Best Bowler Award since its inception seven years ago. The 39-year-old won three titles during the 2001-02 season, posted an impressive 8-1 record on TV, ignited new interest in the league with a memorable 299 game in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Oct. 16, 2001, surpassed his legendary father, Dick, in career titles, and adopted a "PDW" moniker that helped to explain his unique animation on the lanes.

Other nominees were PBA members Parker Bohn III, Jason Couch, Pete Weber, and Walter Ray Williams Jr., along with PWBA Player of the Year Carolyn Dorin-Ballard. Here are the previous winners of the award:
